Deskrawl Horse Cart Filter: Auto-Fill and Known Bugs

Every Deskrawl carriage setting, the life skills behind it, and three known bugs: auto-fill doing nothing, no skip-a-quality option, loot lost at round end.

Deskrawl Horse Cart Filter: Auto-Fill, Auto-Sell and Three Bugs

The carriage filter is four free switches and three paid actions, and it is the difference between an idle game that works and one that does not. Three switches are free and always available: Reins Filter, Collect Chests and Collect Materials. The per-rarity filter is also free and offers three choices per tier — pick it up, auto-sell it, auto-salvage it. What costs gold is Auto-Sell at 1,500, Auto-Fill Inventory at 6,000 and Auto-Salvage at 35,000, and a fourth label, Equipment Auto-Filter, is printed in the game's own text and unlocked by nothing at all.

This page gives you the settings, the nodes that turn them on, and the three bugs players are actually hitting — including the one that loses loot at the end of every round.

Three settings decide whether your carriage is useful:

  • What the carriage refuses to collect. Three toggles, all free, all instant.
  • What it does with a drop it cannot hold. Auto-Sell and Auto-Salvage clear overflow the moment the carriage touches it; Auto-Fill moves it to your bag.
  • How big the carriage is in the first place. 15 to 35 slots from minions, plus nine purchasable capacity nodes.
Where these numbers come from

Read from the game's own shipped data files (1.0 launch build, 28 September 2026); the live client has since moved to patch 1.0.0g. Toggle wording is quoted verbatim from the game's own hints. Node prices and capacity values are the game's own. Bug reports are labelled as player reports and carry their thread dates. The Deskrawl store page is the reference for the current build.

The full settings panel, switch by switch

The panel is called Carriage Settings and it holds four groups. Three of them work today.

The three free toggles

Toggle What the game's own hint says Cost
Reins Filter "When on, the carriage only collects Reins that are not yet unlocked and not already in your bag or carriage. When off, it collects all Reins." Free
Collect Chests "When on, the carriage collects dropped Chests as usual. When off, Chests are skipped and left on the ground." Free
Collect Materials "When on, the hero stops to gather material nodes (plants, ore) as usual. When off, material nodes are skipped." Free

So: Reins Filter is the one to turn on today, before anything else. With it off, a second copy of a Rein you already own gets collected anyway and still eats a carriage slot — which is how a cart fills with nothing you can use. It was added in a June hot fix, announced in one line: "Added cart filter option to filter reins."

Turn Collect Materials off when you are chasing gear, on when you are chasing gold

The Materials toggle does not affect the carriage at all — it changes whether your hero stops to pick plants and ore at all. Left on, it is the difference between a gold run and an idle run; left off, it is the difference between reaching the end of a map and standing still for a third of it. There is no wrong answer, only a wrong one for what you are farming that hour.

The per-rarity filter: three actions, one of them always free

Click the carriage and every quality tier — Common, Uncommon, Rare, Legendary — gets its own dropdown with exactly three choices:

Action What it does Unlock
Pick Up Collects it. The baseline that always works. Free, always
Auto-Sell Sells it the moment the carriage touches it 1,500 gold node
Auto-Salvage Salvages it the moment the carriage touches it 35,000 gold node

Both paid actions state the same thing in their descriptions: the item "does not take up carriage space". That is the mechanism worth understanding — they clear the drop before it occupies a slot, which is strictly better than cleaning up afterwards.

There is no "leave it on the ground" choice, and that is the most-reported filter bug

A player filed this as a bug report with a screenshot: "When clicking on the horse cart, you can click on the various qualities of items that are set by default to 'Pick Up'. However, the dropdown shows 'Pick Up' as the only choice. There is no option to not pick up if I want it to not loot Common items."

Player source: [BUG] No option to NOT pick up a specific quality of item — Steam discussion, read 2026-10-04.

The workaround is the one nobody likes: set Common to Auto-Sell rather than trying to make it Pick Up nothing. It does not leave the item on the ground, but it does stop it taking a slot and it does pay you.

There is also a fourth label in the game's text — Equipment Auto-Filter, described as "Enable Carriage Equipment Auto-Filter, so that it can collect equipment matching the selected rarities and leaves the rest on the ground", shipped in all 14 languages. No node in the tree unlocks it. It is written down and never switched on, and it is the label the bug report above is really describing. If you are hunting for a rarity filter toggle in the tree, it is not coming from there.

The three nodes that turn the paid actions on

Node What it unlocks Gold Demo-locked Needs
Equipment Auto-Sell Auto-Sell on every rarity tier 1,500 No Gold Find I, the 150-gold node
Auto-Fill Inventory A full carriage sends loot to your bag 6,000 Yes Equipment Auto-Sell
Equipment Auto-Salvage Auto-Salvage on every rarity tier 35,000 Yes 38 nodes deep

So: buy Auto-Sell first, always. It is the cheapest node that changes carriage behaviour, it is not demo-locked, and it solves the same problem Auto-Fill is supposed to solve — a cart full of junk — at a third of the price.

Auto-Fill is a genuinely different thing, and the game tells you so in one line that swaps when you buy it:

Without Auto-Fill With Auto-Fill
"At full capacity, no more loot collected" "At full capacity, loot goes to inventory"
Auto-Fill Inventory is the most-reported carriage bug, and it is still unconfirmed

The thread is called "Bug Report - Auto Fill inventory not working", and the report is specific: "test left the game run idle all night — in the morning, the Carriage is full.. check my character inventory and there's nothing in it.. seems not working… eitherway, that 5k gold purchase is not working for me."

Player source: Bug Report — Auto Fill inventory not working — Steam discussion, dated 30 June 2026, read 2026-10-04.

Two things about that report. It is a pre-1.0 thread: the node cost 5,000 gold then and costs 6,000 gold now, so it is describing a different purchase than the one on sale today. And no developer has ever confirmed or denied it, and nobody has posted a confirmed-working reproduction since launch. If Auto-Fill does nothing for you on 1.0, Auto-Sell at 1,500 is the cheaper route around a full cart.

Bug three: loot is lost at the end of every round

This one is not a setting problem and it is not fixed by any node. It is a timing problem, and a player described it precisely enough to be useful:

"At the end of a map or round, some of the loot is lost because the new round begins straight away. The vehicle hasn't moved far enough forward yet, so anything still lying on the ground at that point is lost. Is it the same for you?"

Player source: Loot is lost at the end of a round — Steam discussion, read 2026-10-04.

So: the drop happens, the round ends, and the cart has not travelled far enough to reach it. No filter setting prevents this, because the item never became carriage loot. It went to the ground and the ground was cleared.

One more consequence of the same design, printed in the game's own text: filtered-out loot vanishes after a set number of minutes on the ground. Anything your filter declines is on a timer. That is the argument for Auto-Sell over trying to leave things alone — a declined item does not sit there waiting for you to come back.

If you have lost Legendaries at a round boundary and want the full picture, the save and lost items guide collects the disappearance reports from the game's first week and the one mitigation that works. The related 409 and rollback cases are in the online mode guide.

Buying more capacity: the cheapest gold in the game

Close view of the horse and cart beside the health orb and hotbar
Close view of the horse and cart beside the health orb and hotbar

The filter decides what goes in the cart. Capacity decides how much fits. Nine nodes raise carriage capacity, in two tiers, and the cheapest two cost 500 gold each:

Tier Nodes and gold Total Demo-locked
Capacity I 500, 500, 6,000, 6,000, 8,000, 20,000 41,000 3 of 6
Capacity II (notable) 8,000, 25,000, 150,000 183,000 2 of 3

So: 1,000 gold buys two Capacity I nodes that are not demo-locked, which is cheaper than any Rein you will ever find and cheaper than the 2,500-gold Tazan Camel. Buy both before anything else in this page.

The minions themselves are the other half — carriage capacity runs from 15 to 35 and only Legendaries reach the top. The full 67-minion ladder, the merchant prices and what to prioritise are on the minions and carriage guide.

Storage, bags and the extra capacity pack

Two separate things that players routinely conflate with the carriage:

Thing What it is Where
Storage pages Purchasable stash tabs, at 20,000 / 54,000 / 100,000 gold Life Skills tree
Extra bag A separate purchase, opened from the gift-bag icon in the top-right corner once you are in town Not the carriage
Carriage capacity How many items ride with you in the cart Minions + Capacity nodes

A one-line player question — "I purchased an extra bag. how do I access it?????" — drew a one-line answer: the gift-bag icon in the corner, opened inside town. Patch 1.0.0g later added a Stash All / Take All button to the storage panel.

Summoning is town-only, so decide your carriage before you leave

The game's rule reads "Can only summon in town or the training grounds". You cannot swap a minion mid-zone to free a slot, which means the capacity you take out of town is the capacity you have for the whole run. On a cart that fills in minutes, that decision matters more than any filter setting.

The 30-second setup, in order

  1. Turn on Reins Filter. Free, one click, stops duplicates eating slots.
  2. Decide Collect Materials based on whether this hour is a gold hour or a gear hour.
  3. Set Common to Auto-Sell. You cannot make it skip, so make it sell.
  4. Buy both 500-gold Capacity I nodes. Cheapest capacity in the game.
  5. Buy Equipment Auto-Sell at 1,500. Stops junk occupying a slot at all.
  6. Only then consider Auto-Fill Inventory at 6,000 — and treat it as unproven on 1.0.
  7. Leave the saddle empty for Auto-Salvage at 35,000 until you have bought the 38th node it hangs off. Salvaging a Rare you wanted is worse than filling a slot.

The life skills tree has all 85 nodes with prices, the prerequisite chains and the nodes that are worth buying before them on our life skills guide; the gold to fund the whole list is on Deskrawl gold farming.

What the developer has actually said about the carriage

Two announcements in total, both from the beta, both one line long. They are quoted here in full because the official description of this entire system is two sentences, and neither sentence mentions the bugs below.

Official source: [Patch V0.1.10] New System — Life Skills — published 2026-06-18: "There are skills for carriage to auto filter loot to pickup, to auto sell loot when dropping off loot." That single sentence is the entire official description of the carriage filter. The same patch added "Improve carriage drop off timing in town so player can see whole process."

Official source: [Hot Fix 0.1.13a] — Improve online connection, fix cart overload — published 2026-06-27: "Also fixed cart can carry more than capacity and cause bug." An overloaded cart was a real crash class once, and it has not been mentioned since.

The filter wording itself came a patch later: "Added cart filter option to filter reins" in 0.1.13b. Every line the developer has ever written about this system fits in a paragraph, and none of them has ever mentioned the three bugs above. The full update list is on the Deskrawl patch notes.

FAQ

How do I turn off auto-pickup for Common items in Deskrawl?

You cannot — the dropdown only offers Pick Up, Auto-Sell and Auto-Salvage, with no skip option. That is a known report with a screenshot, not a setting you have missed. The workaround is to set Common to Auto-Sell so it stops taking slots.

Why does Auto-Fill Inventory not work?

Unconfirmed. The most-reported thread is dated 30 June 2026, before 1.0, and describes a 5,000-gold purchase that is now 6,000 gold. No developer has confirmed or denied it. Buy Equipment Auto-Sell at 1,500 instead — it stops junk taking a slot at all, which is what the report is actually describing.

What does the carriage filter cost in Deskrawl?

Nothing for Reins Filter, Collect Chests, Collect Materials or the per-rarity Pick Up action. Auto-Sell costs 1,500 gold, Auto-Salvage 35,000 and Auto-Fill Inventory 6,000. A fourth label, Equipment Auto-Filter, exists in the game's text in all 14 languages and is unlocked by nothing.

How do I stop duplicate Reins filling my carriage?

Turn on Reins Filter. Its hint says the carriage "only collects Reins that are not yet unlocked and not already in your bag or carriage" when it is on, and collects all of them when it is off.

Why do I lose loot at the end of a map?

Because the round ends before the carriage has travelled far enough to reach items still on the ground. No filter setting prevents it because the items never became carriage loot. Filtered-out loot also expires from the ground after a set number of minutes.

How many carriage slots can I get in Deskrawl?

Capacity runs from 15 to 35 depending on your minions, and nine purchasable nodes raise it further. The cheapest two capacity nodes cost 500 gold each, which is less than any Rein in the game.
