Deskrawl class builds compared without a tier list: talent counts, weapon pools, socket limits and the exact gold each class should spend first.
Deskrawl Class Builds: Warrior, Sorcerer, Monk and Hunter
You pick one class online and you cannot switch it. That is the whole reason "deskrawl best class" is the loudest argument in the game's first week. The honest answer is that no tier list exists, and this page will not invent one — but the four classes are not interchangeable, and the differences are measurable today: one class has 57 talents and 248 points of capacity, another has 41 and 230; one can equip 20 weapons and one can equip 9. What those numbers are worth is not knowable, because the game keeps every talent and gear value encrypted.
This page gives you the measurable part — talent counts, capstone shape, weapon pool, socket ceiling, gem access — and then the only question that actually has an answer six days in: where should your gold go first, whichever class you are?
Four things decide how big your ceiling is:
- Talent count and point capacity. The widest panel absorbs more points before it fills, and you will never fill any of them.
- Weapon pool size. The single hardest class restriction in the game sits in one slot.
- Socket capacity. Ten sockets exist in the entire character, and the weapon holds three of them.
- The demo. One of the four classes was not playable in the demo at all, so any "which class" opinion written before launch was ranking three.
Read from the game's own shipped data files (1.0 launch build, 28 September 2026). The live client has since moved to patch 1.0.0g, which changed weapon drops for every class. Anything quoted from a player is labelled as a player report. The reference point for the current build is the Deskrawl store page.
The one choice you cannot undo

The game makes the commitment concrete. The talent panel reads "Choose one capstone per layer. Choices in other layers are independent." Three layers, unlock at levels 10, 30 and 60, one pick per layer, one point each, and no scaling. Changing a capstone costs 8 gold per point involved.
So the decision is not "which class is strongest". It is "which class's panel gives me more distinct things to regret". Here is that comparison in full:
| Class | Talents | Points the panel absorbs | Capstones I / II / III | Main stat | Starting weapon | Demo |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Warrior | 57 | 248 | 3 / 3 / 4 | Strength | Common Axe | Playable |
| Sorcerer | 43 | 232 | 4 / 3 / 4 | Intelligence | Common Staff | Playable |
| Hunter | 44 | 229 | 3 / 3 / 4 | Dexterity | Common Bow | Locked |
| Monk | 41 | 230 | 3 / 3 / 4 | Dexterity | Common Staff | Playable |
So: the Warrior's panel is the widest by 16 talents and 19 points of capacity, and the Sorcerer is the only class with four options in the first layer. Everything else about the class is downstream of that row.
Two numbers about the talents themselves matter more than the totals. Only 38 of the 185 talents are a flat or percentage stat bump — the other 134 rewrite how something behaves, which is why "tier 1 > tier 2 > tier 3" does not apply to a single capstone in this game. And no talent requires another talent, so level is the only gate and there is no tree to plan around. The full breakdown, including all 41 capstones and what each one does, is on our Deskrawl talents guide.
Of the four classes, the Hunter is the one that could not be created in the demo at all. Any tier list written before 28 September 2026 that ranks four classes is ranking three. If you are reading a pre-launch guide, that is the first thing wrong with it — see Deskrawl Demo vs 1.0.
The weapon slot is where the classes actually diverge
Everything else about a Deskrawl build is shared: every class draws from the same eleven equipment slots, the same rarity ladder and the same socket rules. The weapon is the one slot where class identity bites.
| Class | Weapons it can equip | Weapon types | After patch 1.0.0g |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sorcerer | 19 | Mace, Staff, Sword | 20 |
| Warrior | 18 | Mace, Sword, Axe | 19 |
| Monk | 17 | Mace, Axe, Staff | 18 |
| Hunter | 8 | Bow only | 9 |
So: the Hunter's pool is less than half the next smallest, and it is the only slot in the game where that is true. Across the other ten slots the gap between the best-placed class and the worst is at most a couple of pieces. Everything outside the weapon slot is shared gear — 135 of the game's 219 equipment pieces can be worn by all four classes.
The 29th of September patch removed the sting. Before it, a weapon drop was drawn from the class's own equippable list, so a short pool meant fewer weapons and a slower Legendary climb. The patch guarantees an even chance per slot and gave every class one universal weapon. Any class comparison written before 2026-09-29 is measuring a bug that no longer exists.
Outside the weapon, only a handful of pieces are class-locked at all. Exactly 26 of the game's 219 equipment pieces can be worn by one class and no other — and eight of those 26 are the Hunter's bows. The remaining 18 are scattered as one Ring and one set of Gloves for every class, one Helm each for the Warrior, Hunter and Monk, two chest pieces, three necklace pieces and a single pair of boots. Treat those as flavour, not as a build constraint.
Where a Hunter's build ceiling actually is

For a Hunter the binding constraint is sockets, and it is the same constraint everyone has, just felt harder because the weapon pool is small. Across the whole character:
| Slot | Sockets | Slot | Sockets |
|---|---|---|---|
| Weapon | 3 | Ring | 1 |
| Chest | 2 | Necklace | 1 |
| Pants | 2 | Helm | 1 |
| Boots / Belt / Gloves / Shoulder / Back | 0 |
Ten sockets, total, forever. Five of the eleven slots can never hold a gem and nothing in the game opens them later. The gate is item level 30 — not your character level — and one socket costs 400 gold times the item's level plus 100 Earth Essence. The full arithmetic, including what a full ten-socket set costs at level 30 versus level 70, is in our Deskrawl gems and sockets guide.
A socket is the only upgrade in Deskrawl whose price does not depend on whether you guessed the class right. Capstone swaps cost 8 gold a point forever; sockets cost 12,000 on a level-30 item and 28,000 on a level-70 one. Prices are on the gems and sockets page, gem tiers on gems.
The affix priority that does not depend on your class
Because gear is shared, the priority order on affixes is shared too. What changes between classes is only which three stats the weapon can roll.
| Slot | Secondary affixes it can roll | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Weapon | Life on Hit, Life on Kill, Mana on Kill | Only three — the widest primary pool in the game, 26 entries, and the thinnest secondary |
| Chest / Pants / Helm | Life Regen, Magic Find, Gold Find, XP Gain, Life on Hit or on Kill | Five slots, the widest secondary coverage in the game |
| Gloves | Gold Find, Magic Find, Potion Find, Mana on Kill, XP Gain | One of only four slots that can roll Potion Find |
| Belt | Potion Charges, plus Life Regen, Mana on Kill, XP Gain | The only slot that adds potion charges directly |
| Ring / Necklace | Magic Find, Gold Find, XP Gain and a life-on-hit variant | The only two slots where all three farming affixes stack together |
| Shoulder | Life Regen, Move Speed | Two affixes — the narrowest pool in the game |
| Back | nothing at all | A fixed-stat slot, no random affixes ever |
So: for every class the same three affixes decide your farming speed — XP Gain, Magic Find and Gold Find — and they are the widest secondary coverage in the game. Magic Find rolls on seven slots, XP Gain on seven, Gold Find on six. Two useful consequences. First, Shoulders cannot roll XP Gain, so a shoulder is never an experience piece no matter what the tooltip offers. Second, Potion Find and Potion Charges live on only a handful of slots — Potion Find on four, Potion Charges on one — which is the real reason to read the gear stats guide before replacing gloves or a belt.
Every affix has a minimum and a maximum the game never prints. Rarity tells you which of the two you are holding; only the tooltip on that specific item tells you the number. The item rarity guide covers what the six tiers actually change.
What "best class" cannot be answered yet
Four achievements in the game measure the same thing — beating Inferno — once per class. They are the closest thing to a class balance gauge that exists:
| Achievement | What it measures | Players who have it |
|---|---|---|
| Pinnacle: Sorcerer | Clear Inferno as a Sorcerer | 0.1% |
| Pinnacle: Warrior | Clear Inferno as a Warrior | 0.0% |
| Pinnacle: Hunter | Clear Inferno as a Hunter | 0.0% |
| Pinnacle: Monk | Clear Inferno as a Monk | 0.0% |
Read from Steam's global achievement API on 2026-10-04. Every one of those figures sits under one percent, which means they measure how hard Inferno is, not how strong each class is — the level 70 award reads 0.4% and the game has been out six days. Three classes reading 0.0% against one reading 0.1% is a rounding artefact of a sample this small, and treating it as a tier list is exactly the mistake the numbers invite.
The original argument is worth quoting because it is the question in its purest form. From the Steam thread "Class Tier list?":
"If you can only have one online and can't change your choice at least that's what I gathered — I really want to pick the top-tier character."
Player source: Class Tier list? — Steam discussion — thread title and quote verified 2026-10-04. The same thread guesses all four ways: Warrior for survivability, Hunter for crit, Sorcerer for style, and nothing at all for the Monk.
So: the honest answer to "which class is best in Deskrawl" is that nobody knows, including the developer, six days after launch. What you can know is which class gives you the most talents, which class gives you the smallest weapon pool, and how much a mistake in each costs. That is the rest of this page.
The game encrypts every talent and gear magnitude and leaves a decoy where a readable value would be. You can read which stat a talent touches and what it does; you cannot read how much. Any page claiming a specific Deskrawl talent percentage either hand-copied somebody's own tooltip or made it up. Hover the panel — the running game is currently the most accurate talent calculator in existence.
What to spend gold on, whichever class you picked
The order is the same for all four, and every number on it is fixed:
- The level 10 capstone, once you have read it in-game. One point, forever, 8 gold to undo. It is the only irreversible-feeling decision you can afford to rush.
- The ten-point main stat line, available from level one on every class. Undoing it costs 80 gold, which makes it the most expensive mistake on the panel.
- Sockets, once an item reaches level 30. 400 gold times the item level plus 100 Earth Essence, and ten slots is the whole ceiling. Full costs on the gems guide.
- Equipment Auto-Sell at 1,500 gold, so a full carriage stops being your bottleneck. The life skills guide has the node order; the horse cart filter guide has the settings.
- The level 30 and 60 capstones, only once you have actually reached those levels.
If you have never played the game, the unlock order that comes before all of this is on the beginner guide, and the difficulty gates that decide when a build starts to matter are on Nightmare and Inferno.
FAQ
What is the best class in Deskrawl?
Nobody can tell you, and the game launched 2026-09-28. The four Inferno clear achievements read 0.1% for Sorcerer and 0.0% for the other three — numbers this small measure how hard Inferno is, not which class is strongest. What is measurable: the Warrior has the widest talent panel, the Sorcerer has the most first-layer capstones, and the Hunter has the smallest weapon pool.
Can you change class in Deskrawl?
Not for the character you take online. The talent panel's own rule is one capstone per layer at 8 gold per point to swap, and no in-game tool moves a character between classes. The Hunter was not even selectable in the demo.
Is the Warrior the best tank in Deskrawl?
There is no tank role in the game — every class idles and fights the same way. What separates them is talent count, capacity and weapon pool, all three of which are on this page.
Should Hunter players skip sockets because of the small weapon pool?
No. A socket costs the same for everyone: 400 gold times the item's level plus 100 Earth Essence. The weapon holds three of the character's ten sockets, so a Hunter with a level-70 bow has the same three slots to fill as anybody else.
Which stats should I roll on early gear?
XP Gain, Magic Find and Gold Find, because they decide how fast the rest of the build arrives. They are secondary affixes on seven, seven and six slots respectively, and Shoulders are the one slot that can never roll any of the three. The per-slot table is on the gear stats guide.
How much does it cost to try a different build?
8 gold per talent point spent. Right-click one talent to refund a single point, left-click another capstone to transfer across, and the panel's Reset button shows its own price in-game. Refunding a full ten-point stat line costs 80.
