Deskrawl Inferno: How to Unlock the Hardest Difficulty

Deskrawl has exactly three difficulties. Inferno multiplies enemy HP sixfold and is the only tier that drops Divine gear, rune sets and Mythic content.

Deskrawl Inferno: Three Difficulties, and Only the Hardest One Has Divine Gear

Deskrawl has exactly three difficulties — Normal, Nightmare and Inferno — and Inferno is the only one that can drop Divine equipment, set runes or open the Mythic Rift. Three config fields in the shipped build set their minimum difficulty to Inferno1 and nothing else. Inferno also runs enemies at 6× health and 1.8× damage while paying only 2× experience, so it is a gear-level wall, not an XP grind — and almost nobody has cleared it: all four Pinnacle: * achievements sit between 0.0% and 0.1% of global players as of 2026-10-01. This page covers the gate and the differences, the part that is knowable from data on day four.

Where every number here comes from

Config values are read from the unpacked 1.0 launch build (2026-09-28); live is patch 1.0.0g as of 2026-09-30. Field names are printed so you can re-check them. Unlock rates are Steam global percentages read 2026-10-01; they climb continuously, so re-pull the endpoint instead of trusting a cached number.

The three tiers, cell by cell

Stone watchtower and paved village under a night sky

The whole difficulty system is one enum and one three-row array. WorldDifficulty.cs in the decompiled assembly is six lines: Normal = 0, Nightmare = 1, Inferno1 = 2. No fourth tier, no hidden tier, no endless mode. GameConfig.DifficultyTiers then defines what each does.

GameConfig.DifficultyTiers field Normal (0) Nightmare (1) Inferno1 (2)
EnemyHealthMultiplier ×1 ×3.5 ×6
EnemyDamageMultiplier ×1 ×1.35 ×1.8
ExpMultiplier ×1 ×1.5 ×2
ItemLevelsPerMapLevel 0 +1 +2
LootBonusPerMapLevel 0 +0.005 +0.01
GoldBonusPerMapLevel 0 +0.005 +0.01
BossMaterialMultiplier ×1 ×1.5 ×2

The difficulty panel labels exactly these fields: UI.Difficulty.EnemyHealth, EnemyDamage, BonusExp, BonusGold, ItemFind and ItemLevelsPerMapLevel are its column headers, and UI.Difficulty.Base calls Normal "Base difficulty — no bonuses". The config table and the screen you click are the same numbers.

Two rows carry the reward. ItemLevelsPerMapLevel = 2 means item level climbs twice as fast with map level, so your gear stops being a difficulty behind. LootBonusPerMapLevel = 0.01 compounds with map level — 0.7 on a level-70 map against 0.35 on Nightmare. DifficultyTierConfig holds no cap field for it.

Why the code says "Inferno1" and the achievement says "Inferno"

The naming is inconsistent on purpose. The enum member is Inferno1. The localization key is UI.Difficulty.Inferno1, whose English string is the plain word "Inferno". The achievement text reads "Beat Inferno difficulty as a Sorcerer." Three sources, one number, two spellings.

Official source: Deskrawl achievements, English — Pinnacle: Warrior / Sorcerer / Hunter / Monk, read 2026-10-01.

Players invent a third. A Chinese-language Steam thread about missing drops has its machine translation render the top tier as "Torment" — a word that appears nowhere in WorldDifficulty, DifficultyTiers or the UI table. Forum tier names are not extra difficulties: "Inferno1" is the config spelling, "Inferno" the display spelling, and all three mean WorldDifficulty = 2.

What Inferno1 actually gates

This decides your endgame plan, and it is three config fields plus two item tooltips. Every gate is a WorldDifficulty value, so it can only be one of the three tiers above.

Content Gate field Minimum difficulty
Divine equipment LootConfig.MinDivineDifficulty Inferno1 (2)
Set runes (RuneSet = 5) LootConfig.MinSetDifficulty Inferno1 (2)
Mythic content / Mythic Rift GameConfig.MinMythicDifficulty Inferno1 (2)
Black Mist Legendarys LootConfig.MinBlackMistDifficulty Nightmare (1)
Royal Treasure Key (dream realm) MapEntryRequirement.Difficulties Inferno1 (2)
Skull of Inferno (Golden boss stages, Mythic Rift) MapEntryRequirement.Difficulties Inferno1 (2)

Nightmare is not filler: it is where Black Mist Legendarys start (BlackMistChance = 0.002, MinBlackMistDifficulty = Nightmare) and where the Skull of Nightmare comes from. The jeweler's rune-unlock line agrees — "those only turn up on the higher difficulties." See the rune guide for the rune weights and the item rarity guide for why Divine is unreachable below the top tier.

Below Inferno, Divine is not rare — it is impossible

NormalDropSettings.DivineChance is literally 0, so ordinary monsters never roll Divine at any difficulty. Inferno changes the minimum the game accepts, not the size of the roll. Under MinDivineDifficulty = Inferno1 the tier is off.

How the ladder unlocks, in the game's own words

The UI strings describe the rule without naming it. UI.Difficulty.LockHint is "Clear the final boss on {0} to unlock", and UI.Difficulty.GameCompleted announces that beating the game on one tier makes "Harder difficulties... now open on the World Map, with deadlier enemies and greater rewards." With three difficulties and three final-boss dialogue lines (Quest.FinalBossNormal, Quest.FinalBossNightmare, Quest.FinalBossInferno), a one-way ladder is the only reading they all support: beat the final boss on Normal to open Nightmare, beat it on Nightmare to open Inferno.

That final boss is Lord of the Cinder on Volcano7, the level-70 map named by GameConfig.WorldFinalBossMap. Its entry requirement is not a level but a skull per difficulty, encoded as bitmasks — Skull (Normal, 1), SkullNightmare (2), SkullInferno (4) — and the same pattern sits on all ten zone finales. The demon skull guide covers where they drop; 1.0.0g changed Beach Zone's skull drops, so pre-patch claims are stale. The dream realm uses keys the same way: the Royal Treasure Key is described in-game as "Required to enter the dream realm. Has an extremely low chance to drop from monsters on Inferno difficulty." Carry the Silver key into an Inferno run and the requirement does not match.

The achievements measure the funnel. Every rate is a Steam global percentage read 2026-10-01:

Official achievement English description Global rate
BOSS_DEMON_LORD — Extinguish the Crown Slay the Lord of the Cinder atop The Cinder Crown. 1.1%
LEVEL_70 — Peak of Power Raise a character to level 70. 0.5%
ENTER_MYTHIC_RIFT — Into the Endless Realm Step into the Mythic Rift for the first time. 0.2%
INFERNO_* — Pinnacle: ×4 Beat Inferno difficulty as a … 0.0–0.1%

Official source: GetGlobalAchievementPercentagesForApp, appid 4623570 — 37 rows, read 2026-10-01.

These rates only ever climb, and they climb during a single day: an earlier fetch of the same endpoint on 2026-10-01 returned 0.9% for BOSS_DEMON_LORD and 0.1% for ENTER_MYTHIC_RIFT. Treat every figure in that table as a floor at the moment you read it, and re-pull the endpoint rather than trusting a cached number.

The ceiling on Inferno is therefore about 1.1% — roughly one player in a hundred has beaten Lord of the Cinder, and that boss is the unlock condition. The Pinnacle rows land inside it. ENTER_MYTHIC_RIFT at 0.2% is the same story from the other side — the Rift needs MinMythicDifficulty = Inferno1, and its 100 tiers are in the Mythic Rift guide.

You cannot hand-edit your way in

UI.ExploitDetected.IllegalDifficulty reads "Suspicious activity: the save claimed a locked difficulty." Your unlocked difficulty is validated against your save, and 1.0.0g already shipped "Fixed a few cases where cheat detection handed false bans." If you touch save data, read the save and anti-cheat guide first.

Why the wall gets steeper where it does

Two curves stack on the difficulty multiplier. GameConfig splits enemy growth into three bands:

Level band Enemy health growth per level Enemy damage growth per level
0 → 30 +0.12 +0.10
31 → 50 +0.08 +0.04
51 → 70 +0.06 +0.03

If that growth compounds — the only reading that makes the three bands a smooth curve, and an explicit assumption — enemy health at level 70 is about 448× a level-1 enemy's. Apply the difficulty multiplier and the level-70 final boss is roughly ×1,570 on Nightmare and ×2,690 on Inferno. Growth per level drops by a third at each boundary while the multiplier scales everything, so the hardest content stays the hardest. XP tells you what difficulty is actually for:

Difficulty ExpMultiplier EnemyHealthMultiplier XP per point of enemy HP
Normal 1 1 1.00
Nightmare 1.5 3.5 0.43
Inferno1 2 6 0.33

Every step up worsens XP efficiency per point of health. The payoff is ItemLevelsPerMapLevel — +2 on Inferno against +1 on Nightmare — plus double boss materials. Difficulty does not level you faster; it levels your gear faster, so gear score rather than character level has to be ready. Check it against the gear stat guide and the talent guide before you switch.

Offline earnings are computed from mob rolls at your current difficulty, so changing tiers silently changes what your idle hours are worth. The gold guide has the production structure, offline earnings has the cap.

Reading the Pinnacle numbers honestly

The four Pinnacle: * achievements need a caveat, not a headline. The API returns three at 0.0 and one at 0.1, but Steam's community page floors any non-zero rate at 0.1%, so the internal-name-to-display-name mapping for those four rows cannot be cross-verified by percentage — and rows sitting on that 0.0/0.1 boundary are exactly the rows this endpoint moves around on, as the two fetches above show. The defensible statement is the band: all four sit in the 0.0–0.1% range. Any guide naming which class is the 0.1% one is guessing. The community reached the same conclusion on launch day — "you cant see the button or you cant see people on the Leaderboard? Thats because noone is Inferno difficulty."

Community-reported, not a developer statement: Steam discussion 594068393279389533.

What we cannot tell you yet

The game is four days old and nobody has written down how to clear Inferno.

  • No official difficulty documentation exists. deskrawl.com/wiki and deskrawl.com/faq both return 404 as of 2026-10-01, and none of the 26 official announcements cover difficulty tuning. The store page lists "Adjustable Difficulty" as a feature tag and stops there.
  • There is no gear threshold to quote, and the gate comparison is not readable: the IL2CPP export keeps class fields but strips method bodies, so we can show MinDivineDifficulty = Inferno1 but not the if that enforces it. Any DPS requirement or clear time you find on day four was invented.

Knowable today: the tier exists, exactly what it multiplies, exactly which content it gates, and how few players have reached it. We will update this page when real Inferno clears move the achievement data, and the achievement list will move first.

FAQ

How many difficulties does Deskrawl have? Three: Normal, Nightmare and Inferno. WorldDifficulty has exactly three members, and the difficulty panel's column headers are the same fields DifficultyTiers stores.

Is Inferno six times harder than Nightmare? By health, yes — ×6 against ×3.5. Damage only goes ×1.8 against ×1.35, and experience ×2 against ×1.5. Inferno triples the health wall for a one-third XP increase, and the real reward is ItemLevelsPerMapLevel = 2.

Do I need Inferno for Mythic content? Yes. GameConfig.MinMythicDifficulty is Inferno1, and the Skull of Inferno tooltip repeats it: "Required to enter Golden Boss stages and the Mythic Rift on that difficulty."

Why do I have no Divine gear? Two reasons, only one of which is difficulty. NormalDropSettings.DivineChance is 0, so trash mobs never roll Divine anywhere; and MinDivineDifficulty = Inferno1 switches the tier off below the hardest difficulty. Item-by-item detail is in the item rarity guide.

Can I switch difficulty while out grinding? No — UI.Difficulty.TownOnly reads "Difficulty can only be switched while in town." No config field sets a character level to hold a difficulty; the gate is the final boss.
